 President and Chief Executive Officer

Mark J. Forchette, president and chief executive officer, has more than two decades of experience in ophthalmic sales, marketing and business unit management. Immediately prior to OptiMedica, he served as vice president of global marketing and sales for the vitreoretinal business unit of Alcon. In this position, he led the vitreoretinal unit through a period of substantial portfolio enhancement, infrastructure development and a significant increase in market share.

Prior to Alcon, Mr. Forchette was vice president of sales and marketing at Grieshaber & Co. Inc., where he led the privately-held Swiss company's domestic operations through major infrastructure and revenue expansion. Grieshaber, which was acquired by Alcon in 1998, remains a significant contributor to Alcon's successful vitreoretinal portfolio of products. Mr. Forchette received a B.S. in marketing from Auburn University and completed the Harvard Program for Management Development.

 Vice President of Clinical Sciences and Global Advocacy

Dr. George Marcellino, vice president and co-founder of OptiMedica, is widely known in the medical community, bringing more than twenty-five years experience in the medical device industry. He has coordinated a number of ophthalmic research efforts in areas such as selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) for the treatment of glaucoma, photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of exudative age-related macular degeneration, and selective retinal therapy.

Prior to joining OptiMedica, Dr. Marcellino was senior director of research at Lumenis. He previously directed the worldwide sales and marketing organizations and headed the clinical research and development efforts at the Coherent Medical Group. He managed a 100-person sales and marketing team and helped establish many innovative products, including the Novus 2000 Photocoagulator, the Laser Indirect Ophthalmoscope and the Laserlink delivery system. Dr. Marcellino has authored 14 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, two textbook chapters, and is an inventor on four patents. He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph. D. in sensory physiology and psychophysics from the City University of New York.

 Vice President of Sales

Greg Anderson, vice president of sales, has more than two decades of ophthalmic and surgical sales management experience. Prior to his current role at OptiMedica, he served as vice president of U.S. sales for IntraLase Corporation, a leading U.S. manufacturer of femtosecond laser technology, which is used in LASIK surgery for the correction of vision. (IntraLase was acquired by AMO in 2007.) While at IntraLase, Greg managed and directed growth and infrastructure, maximizing sales efforts and market share penetration.

Mr. Anderson served previously as vice president of sales and marketing at WaveLight Technologies AG, a German manufacturer of ophthalmic lasers. In this position, he oversaw the successful U.S. introduction of the company's refractive laser platform. He also worked for 16 years at Coherent Medical Group (which then merged with Lumenis). While serving as director of North American sales, he was responsible for developing the Refractive Business Unit in the United States. Early in his career, he held a variety of medical and surgical sales positions at companies such as American V. Mueller and Baxter Travenol. Mr. Anderson received a B.S. in marketing from the University of Maryland.

 Vice President Global Marketing and International Sales

Robert Eno, vice president of marketing, has more than thirteen years experience in medical device marketing, sales and strategic planning. Prior to joining OptiMedica, Mr. Eno was vice president of marketing for NeoGuide Systems Inc., a developer of robotically-assisted endoscopes.


Previously, Mr. Eno was vice president of marketing and sales for Avantec Vascular Corporation, a company that develops interventional cardiology products. He joined Avantec in 2000 as its first full-time marketing executive. From 1994 to 2000, he held a series of marketing and strategic planning positions in the vascular intervention division at Guidant Corporation. Mr. Eno received a B.A. in economics and American studies with honors and distinction from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

 Director of Quality Assurance

Paul W. Gardanier, director of quality assurance, has more than twenty years of experience in quality, operations and engineering for a number of Silicon Valley electronic product companies. His diverse experience spans ophthalmic and monitoring medical devices, explosive and drug detection technologies, engineering computer workstations and semiconductors. Mr. Gardanier has extensive management experience in both start-up and high growth manufacturing company environments.

Prior to joining OptiMedica, Mr. Gardanier was a systems engineering manager at InVision Technologies, a manufacturer of computer tomography (CT)-based civilian aviation security equipment. Before that, he worked in quality and manufacturing engineering management positions at LifeScan, a glucose monitoring device manufacturer, and at Silicon Graphics in the area of high speed RISC-based visual computing systems. Mr. Gardanier received a B.S. in systems engineering and a M.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Arizona. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of California and is a senior member in ASQ, RAPS, IIE and SME professional societies.

 Vice President of Operations

Robert Haddad, vice president of operations, has more than twenty-five years of medical equipment and high technology operations and general management experience. Prior to joining OptiMedica, he was vice president of international operations and business development for Elkin Medical Systems, a world leader in digital radiology and PACS products for the veterinary care market.

Prior to Elkin, Mr. Haddad was the COO and co-founder of Translucent Photonics. In this position, he helped secure $9 million in venture capital to build a world-class molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) lab. He was previously vice president of operations and product development at the Sunrise Technologies Corporation and vice president of operations at the Iridex Corporation. He also worked for Coherent Medical Group (now Lumenis). Mr. Haddad received a B.S. in industrial engineering and management from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, and an M.B.A from Sacramento State University.

 Vice President of Research and Development

Stephen P. Hanlon, vice president of research and development, has more than twenty-five years of leadership experience in medical technology research and development, with areas of focus including stereotactic radiosurgery, image-guided surgery, implantable devices, electrosurgery and dialysis products.

Prior to joining OptiMedica, Mr. Hanlon was vice president of research and development for Boston Scientific's Neurovascular Division, where he oversaw a 100-person multi-disciplinary department and numerous successful product launches. He also previously served as vice president of operations for Photoelectron Corp. as well as vice president and general manager of the Radionics division of Tyco Healthcare (now Covidien).

Mr. Hanlon received a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Wyoming, an M.S. in electrical engineering from Arizona State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado.

 Chief Financial Officer

Mark A. Murray, chief financial officer, has more than twenty-five years of senior financial experience in the medical device sector. He brings to OptiMedica a wealth of knowledge and expertise in financial planning, accounting controls and compliance, operations, and mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining OptiMedica, Mr. Murray spent more than twenty years at Guidant Corporation and its predecessor, Advanced Cardiovascular Systems. While at Guidant, he held numerous officer-level financial positions. Most recently, he served as vice president of finance for the company's Vascular Intervention, Endovascular Solutions and Cardiac Surgery business units. Mr. Murray was also previously chief financial officer and vice president of finance and administration for Emphasys Medical Inc., an emerging interventional pulmonology company. He began his career at the accounting firms Ernst & Whitney and Main Hurdman.

Mr. Murray received a B.S. with emphasis in accounting from San Francisco State University. He is a certified public accountant.
